Is the machine getting the proper amount of fuel to the carb to run? If the fuel is just slowly running into the carb and is hindered by varnish or things unknown, then that would explain the run times and the fact that it runs longer after it cools down because the fuel has time to refill the float bowl. The final suggestion that could be an issue is fuel. This also lets you know that your stator is living. If you get a nice blue spark then you have most likely eliminated or at least discounted the coil being faulty. Immediately before things have time to cool (yes, wear gloves), place the plug wire on the plug, hold the plug end, where the spark is, against the cylinder head and press the start button for a few seconds. Without bombarding you with technical numbers or making you buy testing equipment, I would simply run the ATV until it dies and pull the plug. As the engine heats up the coil looses its resistance and fails to deliver the charge needed to start the engine.

Coils can become faulty due to extreme temperatures and age. The final test if all else proves to be in good working order would be to test the coil first and then the stator. Make sure the wiring in these areas has not been melted or chaffed in any way. The next step if Compression is good will be to look over all of the wiring harnesses that might come in contact with hot surfaces, such as exhaust or even the cylinder head. If low or out of spec compression is found then you will need to service the top end of the engine.

Having a Yamaha Service manual to compare proper “In Spec” compression numbers is very important. Compare the two results and if the second is significantly lower than the first you might have found your problem. Start with the easiest and perform a compression test when the engine is cold and after running the Grizzly until it stalls test it immediately again. It’s a pain, but a necessary evil unless you just want to haul it off to the dealer. The best way to figure out this kind of problem is to take one issue at a time. This could be a combination of things ranging from electrical wiring, engine compression and stator or coil failures. The longer I let it cool down the longer it will run. Then about 5 minutes it shuts down again. Wait for a couple of minutes and it will start right up.

It starts right up but after about 10 minutes it just shuts off. Any advice on this would be great!!! Am I headed in the right directly choosing this exhaust? I'm tired of purple chrome.I'll stick with matte black steel from now on. I would like to put another DG Exhaust back on.to be exact: DG Exhaust "RCM Steel Exhaust - Black" part number: 04-2112. I would like to solve this before 2014 Trikefest. The throttle response and low end was SO AWESOME when I had that DG Pipe on there.now that I have the OEM back on.I'm the guy who went from cable internet back to dial up.this is no way to live. So I stashed that in a box and stored it for scrap or selling to someone for parts and now I am back to the stock OEM exhaust. They also told me that there was a pin size hole in the weld on one of the two header pipes.

Makes sense to me and they told me it would take them a long time to experiment and get it correct. They informed me that you can't just buy a jet pack for a '85 Honda atc 350x. I took it to a local Honda dealership who looked it over and informed me I did no further damage except to the pipe chrome because its single walled etc. I parked it in one of my garage bays and then started staring at the exhaust head as it turned from Chrome to purple.aI'm pretty sure the jetting needed changed and other things to. This is where the skid mark began.Rode it around my warehouse back lot for about 5 minutes.THANK GOD! Stopped because whenever I would give it a quick throttle punch it would follow up with a loud backfire. Took the OEM exhaust off and boxed it and purchased two new exhaust gaskets and installed them along with the new DG exhaust. I got the "Krome Power RCM Complete Exhaust - Chrome" part number: 26-2112. Hopefully I get some laughs and some good advice from this.Sure did take a nice hit in my wallet for this tragedy!! I decided to buy a new DG Exhaust for my 1985 Honda ATC 350X.
